U10’s Tennis
Tennis is a wonderful sport that combines physical fitness, skill, and strategy. Whether you’re brand new to the game or have some basic experience, these lessons will provide you with a solid foundation to develop your tennis skills and enjoy the sport to the fullest.
Tots 3-5 years
- Learn vital ABC skills (agility, balance & co-ordination)
- Uses small 19-21 inch rackets on a smaller court
- Slower & Larger Red Balls – easier to hit
- Loads of fun games to capture their attention
- Developing their social skills and meeting new people
Red 5-8 years
- Learning vital ABC skills & the basics to all the shots
- Slower & Larger Red Balls for easier hitting
- Uses 21-23 inch rackets on a smaller court
- Fun team games to develop teamwork, social skills and meeting new freinds
- Starting to play beginner matches towards their LTA youth rewards
Orange 7-9 years
- Developing tactical understanding & sound technique
- Slower orange balls using 3/4 court size, using 23-25 inch rackets.
- Fun team games to develop teamwork and social skills
- Players working towards towards the LTA youth rewards scheme
Green 9-11 years
- Developing tactical understanding and developing their technique
- Playing for enjoyment & potentially for competitive play
- Develeping fitness & physical skills to promoting a healthy lifestyle
- Building their social skills and developing friendships
LTA Youth Start Beginners Tennis
LTA Youth Start is a 6 week introductory course for children aged 4-11 years who are new to tennis. This LTA Youth Start coach training course will provide you with all the information you need to deliver LTA Youth Start courses.

Junior Group Coaching Timetable & Prices 2024
LTA Youth Progressions
- Red Ball (5-8yrs) - using a 19-23 inch racket on a three quarter court length court. Matches first to 10 points
- Orange Ball (8-10yrs)- using 23-25 inch racket on a three quarter length court. Matches are first to 10 points
- Green Ball (9-11yrs)- using 25-26inch rackets on a full court playing shorts sets to 4 games
- Yellow Ball (11-18yrs)- using 26-27 inch rackets on a full court playing short or long sets
- Players will need to be LTA Advantage member (free) for competitions

I'm new to tennis. Do you have sessions for complete beginners?
Yes we do. We offer beginners groups for both adults and children. For adults we have a rusty rackets session. You can find out about adult beginner sessions and links to book online on our Adult Beginners page here.
For kids we have 2 age groups U10 and U11-U18. Both of these groups have beginner sessions. For U10’s you can find further information here and also the link to LTA Youth Courses which are 6 week beginners courses which we also offer.

Do you offer private coaching?

Do you offer coaching in schools?
Yes, the Star Tennis Team coach in local Primary Schools around Macclesfield and Wilmslow with a variety of initiatives. Find out more about our programmes for schools here.
